“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Many of our patients ask for advice regarding nutrition, healthy eating, supplements, weight loss, etc.
1st Rule: In order to be healthy you will need to eat good quality, fresh local food.
2nd rule: Reduce going out to eat to once a week. Make cooking at home a fun event that everyone contributes to.
3rd rule: Know what is in your food, read labels!
4th Rule: Eliminate processed foods. If it was not around 100 years ago, best not to eat it!
5th Rule: Reduce or eliminate refined sugars.
6th Rule: Develop a healthy relationship with your food.
7th Rule: Never feel like you are on a diet. Eat food you love!
8th Rule: Never feel deprived, if you need that Mocha lava cake eat it, just get back to your healthier choices after the sugar high wears off.
9th Rule: Be prepared. If you know you have a long travel day ahead bring some good quality snacks with you. If I find myself having to go out to eat while away from home, I search the internet for healthier options, sometimes just finding a grocery store will work.
10th Rule: Make extras! On the weekend we will double several of our meals so it helps us be prepared for the hectic weekday schedule.
